Andrew the Pruner

Andrew came in over Christmas break to teach the men about pruning.  First we started in the classroom and he told the men all about the reasons to prune; for health, beauty, maintenance and production.  He talked about proper cuts and french pruning.  He is a born teacher and the men loved listening to him.  As he talked and drew on the board, I passed out pictures from books and magazines to illustrate various pruning techniques from fancy English topiary to pruning apple trees for orchard production.

We then went outside into the balmy 50 degree air and he demonstrated cuts on a pine tree, a dogwood and on a burning bush hedge.  The men responded well and asked great questions as usual.  They even cleaned up after Andrew without being asked!
