Surplus

While the goal of the teaching garden is to instruct students in organic gardening it is such a thrill to have a surplus of flowers or produce as well.

We have enough for the students to gorge on strawberries

and lettuce

and herbs in June,

as well as beans in July.

It is though, especially rewarding to have enough to share with more than just the students.  The kitchen at the Boston Pre Release Center will take produce only if it is enough for the entire facility.  I am happy to report this summer we have given the kitchen enough lettuce IMG_7742

to share with the 200 plus inmates one day!

We also consistently have a bucket of flowers to give to visitors in the family room every Wednesday.
